Distribution and Abundance: Local.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Double brooded in May and June and again in July and August.

Localities: Evenley Wood Garden, Blatherwycke Lake, Fineshade and Easton Hornstocks.   

Observations: Until 2007 the recent distribution of this species within the county seemed to be entirely north eastern, however in 2007 the moth was found to occur in Evenley Wood Garden in the south of the county. As much recording activity has taken place in the middle of the county this suggests a discontinuous distribution of the species within Northants. In north Northants woodlands the moth can be common at light as shown by the 2003 returns from Old Sulehay when fifteen examples were taken at m.v. light. Viz, 7 May - 9,  22 May - 5, 24 July - 1. I have never seen the melanic form ab. melanotica in the county.
