Distribution and Abundance: Fairly common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded from May to July.

Observations: The species appears to have been subject to considerable fluctuations in abundance over the years. Although regarded by Wallis as common around the turn of the last century there are few records after that until the 1950’s. It was then found fairly commonly at m.v. light in Wellingborough and other places; it was plentiful at sugar in Grafton Park Wood in 1956. After the 1950’s a decline seems to have set in when it was hardly recorded until the 1990’s when it became more common again, especially in 1996 when it appeared to peak before becoming rather less common in subsequent years.
