  Southern Wainscot Mythimna straminea

  Status:  Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Local.

Primary Habitat:  Wetland.

Flight Period:  Single brooded in July and August.

Localities:  Yardley Chase, Pitsford Water, Boughton Park and Whitewater Reservoir.

Observations:  This species is usually seen in small numbers at light in the county. The only occasion that I have seen it more commonly was on 28 July 1988 at Glendon Lake. At that time, a dense bed of great reed surrounded this small isolated lake. An actinic light trap left overnight within the reed bed attracted eleven examples of the moth.
