  Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Very common.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Single brooded in March and April.

Observations:  Returns from the two Pitsford Reservoir light traps for 2002 show 253 moths recorded with an overall flight period of 4 March to 12 May. Melanics occur but are rare. The only example that I have seen is a melanic female that emerged from a pupa dug from the roots of elm at Warkton in 1975.
