| Status:
Resident and migrant. Distribution and Abundance: Very common.
Primary Habitat: General
occurrence.
Flight Period: Single
brooded flying from June to October, peaking in August,
probably reinforced by migration in late summer.
Observations: Although
variable in abundance, over the years the species has
always been very common. For the past three years it has
been the most plentiful species at Pitsford Reservoir
where the two static m.v. light trap returns show the
following numbers of moths: 2000 - 3,402, 2001 - 2,580
and 2002 - 2173. By comparison, a single 80 watt light
trap run in a Wellingborough garden fifty years ago in
1951 attracted 840 moths in the season.
L.O.N.: 1907.
Everywhere. Often abundant.
First Record: 1842, Clark.
