Key to Text Moths of Northamptonshire

Key to Map
  The Engrailed Ectropis bistortata

  Status: Resident.

Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Double brooded in March and April and again in July.

Observations: Generally first brood moths are much less plentiful at light than those of the second brood. Returns from the Pitsford Water static m.v. light traps for the years 2000 to 2002 show overall catches of 40 moths of the first brood and 142 moths of the second brood. As records extend into September it seems that in some years there is a partial third brood. Melanics are fairly common.

L.O.N.: 1906. Yardley Chase, Daventry. Common on tree trunks. Apparently not found in the north part of the county.

First Record: 1882, Hull & Tomalin.
